Is it an "incinerator" or an "Energy-from-Waste" plant?

This simple debate is one that has plagued comms professionals in the environmental services sector for years, and rears its ugly head almost every time a journalist steps, for the first time, into the world of energy-recovery.

As a former reporter, I have total sympathy for the journalist who describes these facilities as "incinerators". It's easy to write, easy to say, easy to understand and evokes nice mental images of evil industrialised facilities spewing fire and brimstone and causing destruction on a mass scale. Good stuff. It's not accurate of course, but it's good stuff.
